Art That Heals: The Rainbow Rescue Mission
Art as Resistance
Art has always been my way of channeling everything I feel, everything I experience, and everything I believe in. From my love for nature to my passion for queer representation, each piece of art I create is a reflection of self-discovery, queer joy, and resilience. Today, Iām so excited to share with you my latest art collection, one that I am calling the āRainbow Rescue Mission.ā Making these paintings and adding a little rainbow to my day, every day, truly rescued me. Let me explain.
The Birth of the Rainbow Rescue Mission
Have you ever received earth-shattering news? The kind that makes you question everything? The kind that turns your world black? At the end of 2024, that was me. I was in a seriously dark place, struggling to find any motivation or hope for the future. But each day, I got up, drew up a design based on my flash, and challenged myself to color it using my favorite palette, rainbow. Thatās literally all I could manage some days, and at the time, it didnāt feel like much. But looking back, I see it for what it wasāqueer joy and resilience in action.Ā
This little rainbow challenge, forced me to show up for myself, even when I didnāt feel like it. Somewhere in that process, these pieces became more than paintingsāthey became proof that I could keep going, and I feel really proud of them.Ā
The Healing of Letting Go
At first, I honestly couldnāt imagine parting with these little lifelines. They felt too personal, too tied to a moment of growth and resilience in my life. But as Iāve been naming them, writing their descriptions (like little adoption profilesš„¹), and preparing them to find new homes, something has shifted. Art projects that once felt like mere survival tools have transformed into living pieces of my storyāones I now feel ready to share. What started as bittersweet has turned into excitement. I canāt wait to see them go out into the world and bring some much-needed ROYGBIV joy to someone elseās life.
A Rainbow for Everyone: Letās Spread Some Joy
These pieces lifted me when I needed them most, and now, Iām ready to send them out into the world, where I hope they can do the same for someone else. Except for "Rainbow Forager"āthe painting that started it all. That one stays with me, but prints are available so its magic can still be shared.
I hope these paintings find their way into spaces where they can spread the same joy and resilience that I poured into them. These pieces are not just a celebration of the rainbow, they represent everything that makes us unique, strong, and unapologetically ourselves.
If any of these pieces speak to you, consider adopting a rainbow of your own. Let them serve as a reminder that even in the darkest times, possibility and healing are always within reach. Hereās to showing up for yourself, even when you donāt feel like it.
