The Tattoo Process from Start to Finish

Booking Process

The tattoo process begins with submitting a Tattoo Booking Form. Within 24-48 hours, you will receive an email from Alister to start the consultation process. A scheduling link will be provided, allowing you to choose from available dates up to 60 days in advance. You will also use this link to pay a $50 deposit. Once booked, you will receive a confirmation email with appointment details.

Arrival

Your appointment will take place at Radiant Body Art, a queer-owned tattoo studio in Downtown Troy, staffed by three queer and trans tattoo artists. When you arrive:

    • Check in at the desk.

    • Fill out a consent authorization form (a valid photo ID is required).

    • Take a seat in the waiting area, or browse our large selection of merch.

🔹 Accessibility Note: There is a 2 inch step to enter the studio. Our furniture supports 500-800 lbs. If you require any accommodations, please indicate them on your booking form.

Getting Started

Before we begin:

    • We will discuss your tattoo design, finalizing size and placement.

    • If you need to change clothes, privacy curtains are available in each tattoo booth, or you may use the restroom.

The Tattoo Stencil

    • Once the size and placement is confirmed, I will print a stencil of your tattoo design.

    • Your skin will be cleaned and shaved (please do not shave beforehand to avoid razor burn or irritation).

    • A special stencil transfer lotion will be applied (Stencil Stuff), and you will have a mirror to check placement.

    • The stencil needs 10 minutes to dry before we proceed.

Aftercare Discussion

While the stencil dries, I will set up my station with single-use, sterilized items, including needles. During this time, we will also go over aftercare instructions.

Getting Tattooed

    • Once the stencil is dry, you will get comfortable on the massage/tattoo table or chair.

    • A small amount of ointment is applied to the skin before tattooing begins.

    • I will start with a few short lines to help you get used to the sensation.

    • I will complete the outline first, then take a break. If requested, I can apply numbing spray before continuing.

    • Details and shading are then added to the design.

    • Finally, I will apply witch hazel to soothe and clean the skin.

    • The tattoo is wrapped in a transparent medical dressing (Recovery Shield/Second Skin).

    • I will take a photo of the final tattoo (optional, with your consent).

    • There is no rush for you to leave the shop. Chill in the waiting area and have a snack or wait for your ride.

Payment

    • Final payment is due at the end of your appointment.

    • Preferred payment methods: Cash, Venmo, PayPal, or CashApp.

    • Credit cards are accepted with a 2.6% processing fee.

    • Tipping is appreciated but never expected. 💜
